Computers

Nerdy stuff for my own curiosity. Fun to look at later. Last updated 2020-01-28 I have mostly named my computers after guitar makes or models. Some people create new names for every machine, I keep the same names around for replacements. [jaguar] MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018) CPU: 2.6GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7 GPU: AMD Radeon Pro 560X, Intel UHD Graphics 630 MEM: 16GB 2400MHz DDR4 SSD: 512GB SSD OS: macOS Aquired: July 2019 - I didn't wait for the 16" to come out because I figured Apple would bump the price up again. Instead they came out at the same price with 2X drive space and put the Escape key back. So I'll probably try to sell this and get one of those before the 3-year warranty on the butterfly keyboard expires. However I was happy to upgrade to this with 16GB of RAM and a much more powerful CPU for when I'm running VMs, along with better graphics for rare gaming, compared to my old 13" - Almost entirely used in clamshell with external keyboard, mouse, monitor both at home and at work. [ibanez - Work] HP Z220 CPU: Intel Core i7 3770 GPU: on CPU Intel HD 4000 MEM: 16 GB RAM (up from 8GB) SSD: 1TB WD Blue OS: Debian Buster (formerly Jessie) Tenkeyless CM Quickfire MX Blue Keyboard, Kensington Expert Trackball Samsung 24" 1920x1200 (thankfully my new boss also loves 16:10) [les] Lenovo Thinkpad X230 CPU: Intel Core i5 GPU: Intel HD ?? [fender - Home] CPU: Intel Core i5 4570S (originally used in thin mini itx, so low power version) GPU: on CPU Intel HD 4600 MEM: 8 GB RAM SSD: 120GB mSATA (also from thin mini ITX rig) MB: Gigabyte Z97 SLI OS: Debian Jesse Tenkeyless Code Keyboard, Logitech MX1100 2x Samsung 19" 1440x900 (very old, but I love 16:10) Corsair Carbide 200R 120GB is fine because I use a NAS with 2x 3TB in RAID 1. QNAP TS-220 [jaguar - laptop 2016-2019] MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2015) CPU: 2.7GHz 2-Core Intel Core i5 GPU: Intel Iris Graphics 6100 MEM: 8GB DDR3 SSD: 256GB SSD OS: macOS [jaguar - Laptop 2014-2016] Dell XPS 13 9333 - normal Windows version, but bought for Linux compatibility. CPU: Intel Core i5 4200U RAM: 8GB SSD: 240GB mSATA - Running Ubuntu 14.04 since Dell builds drivers for Ubuntu. But most of the XPS 13 stuff is upstream now, and most any distro will work - 40 gig Windows 8 Partition. Sometime for testing, mostly for using py2exe to distribute code I write to co-workers [line-6 - old laptop] Dell E6400 Core 2 Duo 5GB [marshall - Server] Server is a Celeron E1200, 2GB RAM, running Wheezy. Software

Currently running a lot of Apple stuff because I'm tired of tweaking things. After running vim for many years, I mostly use emacs now for local development. I still often use vim on remote connections. I sometimes use Sublime Text, VS Code, or BBEdit. I like a lot of Mac specific apps like Acorn, OmniFocus, Alfred, CodeRunner, DaisyDisk, Fantastical 2, iTerm, OpenEmu, Transmit I do a lot on the command line. Honestly I run sftp or scp more often than I run Transmit, but in some use cases the GUI tools are helpful. Typically I do my web browsing with Safari purely for the tab syncing between my phone, computer, and iPad. I go through periods of mostly using Firefox. I'm trying to avoid Google Chrome these days since browsers are again becoming a mono-culture.
